Charlotte Bennett Schoen (D) won reelection for the 2nd Ward Council seat against Republican Norman Gorlyn 618 to 411. In the 4th Ward contest, incumbent Jack Drakeford (D) had quite a time with Independent newcomer Dierdre Glenn Paul, 498 to 362. The Republican candidate got 35 votes. Independent Mayor Peter S. Rustin was elected to a second term Tuesday. Rustin received 2,146 votes, Democratic Councilman Michael Lattif picked up 665 votes and Republican candidate William S. Saunders got 382.
Also elected to council seats were Democrats Patrick J. Rouse and Joseph McDermott, who ran unopposed for the three-year terms.

The City Council remained a Democratic stronghold Tuesday, as two incumbents triumphed over their challengers in Englewood's 2nd and 4th wards.
In the 4th Ward, nine-year incumbent Jack Drakeford defended his seat with more than a hundred-vote margin over independent Dierdre Glenn Paul, receiving 498 votes to her 362. Republican challenger Alice Joy Frank Leonard received 35 votes.
